Which Utility Decides Your Apex EV Charger Rebate: Town of Apex Electric or Duke Energy
The Town of Apex has owned and operated its own electric distribution system since 1917. Town of Apex Electric serves homes inside the town limits, parts of Cary and some rural areas, and it belongs to ElectriCities, the group behind North Carolina’s public power towns. Duke Energy covers much of the surrounding area. Your street address alone does not settle the question, so the bill is where we look. Here is what each answer means for a charger:
- A Town of Apex Electric bill. The Duke credit does not apply, and we found no town EV charger rebate when we checked in October 2026.
- A Duke Energy bill. The Charger Prep Credit can apply, up to $1,133 for each EV registered at the address.
- A home you just bought. Wait for the first bill before planning around any credit.
- A bill you are unsure about. Send us a photo of its top section and we will read it with you.
Getting the utility right first saves money in both directions. A Duke household that never hears about the credit leaves up to $1,133 behind, and an Apex Electric household promised the credit ends up paying the full invoice anyway. Assuming every Triangle home qualifies is a known trap in Apex, because the town’s own customers are not eligible.
